About Guidepole

Short description

Guidepole makes smart outdoor access maps. Its apps turn land ownership, water, public land, regulations and live conditions into one plain answer: can I go here, and is it good right now?

Long description

Guidepole makes smart outdoor access maps for people who fish, hike, bird and spend time outside. The answer to where you are allowed to go, and whether it is worth the trip, usually exists, but it is scattered across government records most people never see. Guidepole brings it together on one map and works out the answer for you.

Everything is grounded in government data from USGS, BLM, NOAA, EPA and state agencies. Each app pairs that map with an assistant you can ask in plain English. Guidepole Fire is available now across all 50 states and Canada. Guidepole Fish and Guidepole Hike are coming soon, and Guidepole Bird is in active development. Guidepole is based in Ballard, Seattle, Washington.

Colin Van Dyke

CEO & Founder

A lifelong fisherman with a background in software and patent law. Colin grew up fishing in Southwest Washington, and when he moved to the Puget Sound none of that local knowledge carried over: new techniques, private tidelands, and no idea which water he could legally reach. He started Guidepole so anyone in a new place can find out where they are allowed to go without having to piece it together from government records. Based in Ballard, Washington.
