US State & Regional Privacy Notice

Last updated October 12, 2026

This notice adds to our Privacy Policy. It gives the specific disclosures that US state privacy laws require and explains how to exercise your rights. We extend these rights to every Guidepole user in the United States, whatever state you live in.

1. Who this notice covers

Residents of every US state. Several states have comprehensive consumer privacy laws, including California (the CCPA, as amended by the CPRA), Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia. Rather than check which law applies to you, we give the rights described here to all US users.

Section 9 covers Nevada, and section 10 covers Canada (Guidepole Fire serves Canadian users).

In this notice, “personal information” means information that identifies, relates to, or could reasonably be linked to you or your household.

2. We do not sell or share your personal information

We do not sell your personal information, “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it for targeted advertising. We do not use it for profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. We have not done any of these in the past 12 months.

We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

3. What we collect, where it comes from, and why

In the past 12 months we have collected the categories of personal information below. The “recipients” column lists the kinds of service providers we disclose each category to, only so they can run Guidepole for us; they may not use it for their own purposes.

We do not collect biometric information, health information, financial account numbers, government ID numbers, or the contents of your communications. We do not draw inferences to build a profile about you.

We also collect anonymous connectivity counts (whether the app’s requests succeed on cellular data, at a location rounded to about 100 meters) that are not stored with you or your account (a short-lived, one-way-hashed counter that caps each account’s notes per area, deleted within a day of the first note, limits abuse); see our Privacy Policy.

4. Sensitive personal information

Under several state laws, precise geolocation is sensitive personal information. We process it only with your consent, given through your device’s location permission, and only to provide the features you request and to build our anonymous cell-coverage map. We do not use it to infer characteristics about you, sell it, or use it for advertising. Because we use it only for these permitted purposes, California’s right to limit the use of sensitive personal information does not apply, but you can withdraw your consent at any time by turning off location access in your device settings.

5. How long we keep it

We keep each category for as long as your account is active, or until you delete the item, plus any period the law requires (for example, tax records). When you delete your account, we disable it immediately and delete or de-identify your personal information after a 30-day grace period. The “Data retention” section of our Privacy Policy has the details.

6. Your rights

  • Know and access. Ask what personal information we have about you, the categories of sources, why we collect it, and the categories of recipients, and get a copy of it.
  • Portability. Get your personal information in a portable, readily usable format.
  • Correct. Ask us to fix inaccurate personal information.
  • Delete. Ask us to delete your personal information, subject to legal exceptions. You can also delete your account directly in the app.
  • Opt out. Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, targeted advertising, and profiling. We do none of these, so there is nothing to opt out of, but you may still make the request, and we honor Global Privacy Control signals.
  • Third parties. Where your state law provides it, ask for a list of the specific third parties we have disclosed your personal information to.
  • No discrimination. We will not deny you service, charge you a different price, or give you a lower-quality service for exercising these rights.

We do not offer financial incentives or price differences in exchange for personal information.

7. How to make a request

  • Email [email protected] from the address on your account, or include the email address or phone number you sign in with, and tell us what you want to do.
  • Delete your account at any time in the app (Menu, then Profile, then Delete account).

To protect your account, we verify a request by sending a one-time code to the email address or phone number on the account. We will not ask for more information than we need to verify you.

Authorized agents. You can have someone make a request for you. We will ask the agent for proof that you authorized them, such as signed written permission or a power of attorney, and we may ask you to verify your identity directly.

We respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we will tell you why, and we may extend that by up to another 45 days as the law allows. We do not charge for requests unless they are clearly unfounded or excessive.

8. Appeals

If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision or by emailing [email protected] with the subject “Privacy appeal.” Someone not involved in the original decision will review it, and we will tell you the result in writing, with our reasons, within the time your state’s law requires (generally 45 to 60 days). If you disagree with the result, you may contact your state attorney general.

9. California and Nevada

California “Shine the Light.” California residents may ask us once a year about personal information we disclosed to third parties for their own direct marketing. We do not disclose personal information for that purpose.

Users under 18 in California may ask us to remove content they posted publicly in Guidepole by emailing [email protected]. Removal does not guarantee complete deletion, for example if someone else copied it.

Nevada. We do not sell covered information as Nevada law defines it. Nevada residents may still send an opt-out request to [email protected].

10. Canada

If you use Guidepole in Canada, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial laws, including Quebec’s Law 25, may give you rights to access and correct your personal information, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a privacy commissioner.

Your information is stored and processed in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under US law. Our privacy officer can be reached at [email protected].

11. Outside the United States and Canada

Guidepole is built for the United States (and, for Guidepole Fire, Canada). It is not directed at users in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or other regions. If you use it from elsewhere, your information is processed in the United States under our Privacy Policy.
